PUBLISHING CONTEST

Have you experienced God in a way that is reflected in one of His names?

EABooks is using two of the names of God as themes for the 2024 Anthology Book Contests

El Jireh: The God Who Provides

When we are at the end of all we have, El Jireh shows His hand. God doesn’t always give us what we want or when we want it, but He perfectly provides all we need at the right time.

El Raah: The God Who Shepherds

When we are lost, afraid, being led astray, or headed in the wrong direction, the Shepherd’s staff is there to course correct, guide us to safety, show us a better way, and bring the lost home. The Good Shepherd is El Raah!

Do these describe your experience with God? Whether new to the publishing world or an old pro, we invite you to submit your words to our 2024 contest books. Here are the details (and even some professional tips to help you write better):

Contest Goals:

  • Produce excellent, inspiring books that will bless, motivate, and encourage readers into a closer walk with the Lord.

  • Give qualified authors a platform to tell their stories.

  • Provide newer authors the opportunity to learn how to submit materials for publication. You will follow a set format presented in our guidelines, and because our contest is run by staff members who have worked in and for royalty publishing houses, you will get a chance to experience professionalism.

  • All submissions will be professionally edited, and learning to work with an editor is a valuable part of this publishing process.

  • EABooks will take on all costs to produce the books. Authors will be able to purchase copies at the authors’ rate. Authors can then resell for the list price, earn some money, and have a publishing credit.

Details:

  • You may enter the contest for either book as often as you like. But only one submission for each book will be accepted.

  • If your manuscript is a winning entry, you will receive one free copy of the book.

  • ·All winning entries will receive a professional edit using track changes (we’ll show you how to use this program).

  • This contest has a $10 fee per entry. (Remember, contest fees are usually tax-deductible for writers). This covers your edit and the cost of mailing your free book.

  • You may submit personal experience pieces, poetry, as-told-to articles, devotionals, and third-person articles.

  • Good news! Unlike many contests, we maintain no rights to your manuscript. If your manuscript is a winner, we will ask you to sign a simple form allowing us to use your work in this compilation, but you still own your materials, meaning you can sell it elsewhere with reprint rights.

  • If you want to submit a piece that’s already been published elsewhere, that is fine. But you must own the materials (so if someone else purchased it for all rights, you don’t own that piece anymore). If you have problems figuring this out, contact us, and we’ll help.

Our deadlines are:

El Jireh: The God Who Provides—May 1, 2024 midnight

El Raah: The God Who Shepherds—June 1, 2024 midnight

Guidelines:

  • Submissions may be no more than 1500 words for a single piece. For instance, a single devotional can’t be more than 1500. Likewise, you would not combine several poems to equal 1500 words—those are submitted individually, and each submission cannot be longer than 1500, but can always be shorter.

  • We only accept Microsoft Word .doc or .docx files, standard manuscript format—Times New Roman, 12pt font, 1-inch margins, double spaced.

  • Submissions will be judged on their alignment with the theme and following all guidelines.

  • You must have full contact information (Name, address, email, phone number) in the upper left hand of your manuscript. In the right corner, note if you’re offering first rights (it’s never been published before) or reprint rights (it’s been published before and where), the word count, the type of piece (article, devo, poem, story) as well as which book, El Jirah or El Raah, you are submitting to.

  • Your manuscript should be submitted with the filename: Last name.partial title.Jirah or Raah, depending on which book you submit to. Example: Cowell.Simply Amazed.Jirah.docx

  • Entry fee must be paid prior to the deadline. You can submit payment by check mailed to Living Parables, 1136 W. Winged Foot Circle Winter Springs, FL 32708, or through Zelle (407-712-3431).

  • All entries must be uploaded using this entry form ⬇.

Formatting Guides:

  • All manuscripts should be attached to the email and submitted as Word documents (do not send us a link to One Drive or Google Drive; attach the manuscript itself).

  • Use a 12-pt font for all text, Times New Roman. Use the same font throughout the article, and only use black type.

  • All manuscripts should be double-spaced (contact information on the first page may be single-spaced).

  • Set one-inch margins on each side, top, and bottom.

  • Each paragraph should be indented 5 spaces. However, set this up in Word under paragraph indent functions. Do not use the tab or hit the space bar five times.

  • As noted, put your contact information in the upper left corner of the first page of your manuscript. Put the rights available in the right-hand corner and the title of the book you’d like to submit this to “Submission for Refreshed by God’s Love” or “Submission for Refreshed by God’s Mercy.”

  • Drop down a few lines and center your manuscript title (be creative!)

  • Two lines under the manuscript title, center your byline (the name you want this published under. This is where you would put a pseudonym—pen name—if you choose to use one.

  • Drop down a couple more lines and start your piece. Since you are indenting paragraphs, do not put extra space between your paragraphs.

  • Do not use automatic functions on ellipses or numbering—do these manually (ellipses should be: space, dot, space, dot, space, dot, space.

  • Congratulations! Now you know how to submit a manuscript professionally. This is the standard procedure you’ll follow when you submit to most editors.
